Counselling for Pet Loss

Pet Loss Counselling and Pet Bereavement Support

Losing a beloved pet can be one of the most painful and heartbreaking experiences we go through.  For many of us, our pets are not “just animals” –  they are family members, companions, best friends and a constant source of unconditional love.  The bond we share with them is deep, meaningful and irreplaceable.

At Empowering Counselling Services, I offer compassionate and understanding pet loss counselling for individuals experiencing grief after losing a pet.  Whether your companion was a dog, cat, hamster, rabbit, bird, horse or any other cherished animal, your feelings are valid and deserving of care and support.

When a Pet is Family

Our pets become part of our everyday lives.  Whether it was a small hamster you cared for each day, a loyal dog who walked beside you for years, or a horse with whom you shared a powerful connection, the attachment is real and deeply personal. They greet us at the door, sit beside us during difficult times, and bring joy, comfort and routine to our days.  When they die, the loss can feel overwhelming.

You may experience intense sadness, guilt, anger, loneliness or even a sense of emptiness in your home.  Unfortunately, pet bereavement is sometimes minimised by others, leaving you feeling isolated or misunderstood. You may hear phrases like “it was only a pet” or “you can get another one”. This can make the grieving process even harder.

In reality, grief after losing a pet, whether a hamster or a horse  can be just as profound as losing a human loved one. The attachment, shared memories and daily connection are real…. and so is the pain.
